Third Draft Update

It's been a week. I'm about 35,ooo words into my third draft and hoping to reach 50,000 before I send it off with my sis. She should be here tomorrow night. I might actually finish this draft in two weeks. It's been so much fun to read through it quickly, making ticky tacky changes, deleting boring paragraphs, adding relevant details, and falling in love with my characters again. So far, I haven't had a single new character tap me on the shoulder and demand to be included. What a relief!

Thank you for your encouragement and advice. Obviously, I didn't stay off the internet the whole week, but I did pretty well for a couple of days. ;)

  2. Amazing. Don't beat yourself up too much about visiting the internet here and there. A little break now and then is refreshing and needed. Good luck.

  3. Sounds like we are in about the same place - I am revising my manuscript and am about 25k words into it. I am hoping to be done in about two weeks. Care to race? :)

    Best of luck!

  5. You're right, Camie. I need a break about every ten pages, or I start missing stuff.

You're on, Ryan! How many words is yours?

    Thanks, Chris!

Okay, Krista. I owe you a lunch date (picnic before it gets too hot?) and a manuscript in about two weeks - any weekday but Friday.

  8. Revision, revisions. That's what writing is. And staying off the Internet long enough to do it. Way to go. I'm out today making connections. The Mormon Fest caught my eye, since I'm Mormon--all my long life. I'd be happy to have you come over to my blog and meet me.

  9. ahhh...revision. I know what you mean about falling in love with your characters all over again. That's so nice, because you're like, "hey I'm not that bad at writing after all..."

But when you reread and see how weakly developed a customer is...that's another story :( lol hopefully you don't run into anything like that!!

  10. Oh, cool! We got a race. I'm about 27k into 65k of edits. I do have to add a few missing and/or summarized scenes. I know you have about 94k to go through. We'll have to figure out handicap rules.

  12. Thanks, everyone! My sis didn't end up coming this weekend, after all, but I think she's coming next weekend. I'm hoping this will motivate me to pull some later than usual nighters next week.

Ryan, I'm not worried about handicaps. We're both almost halfway through, and it's just for fun.
