Year of the Wooden Horse*

With roses that dwarf my fruit trees
in a spring that would tear open summer,
I outline stories for a wooden horse.

He gallops,
heedless of my mistakes--
of my need to perfect
something,
anything.

Little green apples swell,
ripen,
but the horse will not touch them.
Not yet.

*It's National Poetry Month. :o)

I've been outlining a lot for a pantser (no, Autocorrect, I am not a panther) lately. I've outlined and written synopses for two books in a MG space opera series, and I've been outlining some pretty major changes to TBW.

I've also been researching Constantinople and trying to perfect a couple of picture books.

In the world outside my head, I've been gardening, mothering, volunteering at the local fair, and teaching little kiddos to read. I love it when they put things together near the end of the year and get excited about reading.

What have you been up to this month?

  1. Maybe *gasp* you aren't a pantser after all! :P

I've been figuring out my career path this month.

    1. Yeah, we'll see how outlining translates to actual writing. If it works out for both projects (or any project), I may not be a pantser anymore.

  2. I didn't know about National Poetry Month, but it's perfect because what I've been doing is finishing up my new poetry website. It just went live today. Hope you visit my blog, click over to the new site, and check it out! (I'd love to hear your feedback.)

  3. Hi Myrna, I've been out of touch for a while, but I'm back. After the long delay (grad school - yuck) everything was different in my writing world: FSFW seems too far to commute to and the small group I was attending is non-functional; my blog was out of date as well as my web page; and I have mostly converted over to writing short stories and novellas and instead of novels. In March I wrote a chapter for a community novel and also started a writing group for world building genres - both are pretty big accomplishments for me. Earlier this month I was brushing up on specific topics of grammar, reworking stories according to recent feedback, critiquing chapters for my writer's group, updating my website and blog, and lending a hand when asked as my wife is taking on some remodeling projects. Other than the chapter for the community novel, I haven't written anything new since I started my writer's group (strange how that worked), but I hope to remedy that before the end of the month. Good luck with your writing projects.
