Third Draft

My oldest sister called me this afternoon. She's coming to visit next Thursday, and (as she also writes) I would like to send my story home with her (to be scribbled upon). She starts school next month.

I'd like to say that I'm halfway through my third draft - that I'll have it all nice and shiny by then. But the truth is: I've been writing poetry and a picture book and reading/critiquing drafts for my critters. I've been taking a break.

I work better with a deadline, so I'm going to see if this visit will motivate me to push through a draft in a week or so. My first revision only took me eight months. I can do this, right?

Seriously, the only way I can do this is if I stay off the internet for a week. We'll see how I do. I haven't stayed off the internet for a whole week since I started blogging in October. Okay, it's been longer than that. I couldn't tell you the last time I went more than a couple of days without internet.

*deep breath*

Have a lovely week!

  3. You can do this!!

Just really submerge yourself in the story...I tend to revise in quick bursts...it is too hard for me to keep cohesive with the story if I stretch it out over too long a time.

    Good luck!!

  4. I work better with a dead line too. In fact, I recently started a crit group in which we all submit (to each other) every Friday. It forces me to make progress, one way or the other.

  5. Fontes writing group and the Friday deadlines keep me moving. I'm in the middle of editing my manuscript as well, and the pressure and support of the group keeps me plugging away. Good luck with your edits.

  6. You can do it! You may go through serious internet withdrawals (I know I would) but you can do it! :)

  8. I had to get on to research something about throwing knives, and look at how you're rewarding my disobedience. I love you guys.

Krista, I forgot about the blogfest, but I'll have a post up on Tuesday.

And, if anyone needs to get a hold of me, I've decided I have to check my e-mail. Not checking it would be kind of like turning off my phone. And although I'd get a lot more done, if I turned off my phone for a week, I'm not sure the trouble I'd be in would be worth it.
